Each year, Georgetown faculty, staff, and students across campuses and schools read and reflect on one of Dr. King's speeches or texts during the the Spring semester. For 2021, the project will focus on Dr. King’s 1965 speech entitled “Our God is Marching On.” In honor of the late Congressman John Lewis, and in recognition of the pivotal role of students in the Civil Rights movement and current fight for racial justice, we also offer Congressman Lewis’ unedited speech from the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, given when he was head of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.
Faculty and staff are invited to register their commitment to "Teach Dr. King's Speech" with this interest form below. More information is available at

Faculty and staff are invited to attend our annual Teach-In teaching workshop on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 11:30 AM - 1:30PM ET via Zoom. Despite the Zoom venue, we hope to continue our tradition of breaking bread and community-building and therefore strongly encourage participants to bring their meal and refreshments to our Zoom. We'll begin with gathering time and music for the first half hour with the official program beginning at 12:00 PM ET.
The Teach-In is planned to feature three mini-keynote addresses and be followed by a Q&A and dialogue among our three speakers facilitated by Toddchelle Young, Director of Research for the Hub for Equity and Innovation.
Our keynote speakers will offer remarks on the context of the United States at the time that Dr. King and Congressman Lewis offered their speeches and their reflections for today as they relate to racial justice. Our first keynote speaker is Fatima Dyfan (C’21), a senior majoring in Government and African-American Studies with a minor in Theatre Performance Studies and former Executive Producer of the Black Theatre Ensemble. Our second invited guest is Michael Collins who served as Chief of Staff for Congressman Lewis for over twenty years. Our third speaker is Professor Aderson Francois, Anne Fleming Research Professor and Director, Institute for Public Representation Civil Rights Law Clinic at Georgetown University.
